015: Episode 015

Aloha Cinematica

In Episode 015 the New Zealand MPDA announced their box office figures for 2011: an 11% drop on 2010. We talk to the President of the MPDA Disney's Robert Crockett about why that might be and what we can expect in 2012.

Plus we have four reviews in the show today: Dan visits a MYSTERIOUS ISLAND, Kailey checks out the very Kiwi sequel SIONE'S 2. Simon is in remake territory with the long-awaited US version of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO plus we go to Hawaii with George Clooney and is dysfunctional family in THE DESCENDANTS. All that and more in this week's edition of Cinematica.

Show Notes

Sad news from Sundance as Indie screen legend Bingham Ray passed away after a stroke at the age of 57.  He started in cinema in exhibition – as so many do – running the Bleecker Street Cinema from 1981. Apart from having an awesome name, he co-founded October Films in 1991 and helped bring films like BREAKING THE WAVES and SECRETS AND LIES to US and international screens.
